It's going to be the end of an era for Midway Games and Mortal Kombat. Midway recently filed for bankruptcy and will be co-publishing one of its soon to be released games, Wheelman, with Ubisoft. Now Midway Games has put it's long running fighting series, Mortal Kombat, up for sale according to IGN.

From IGN:
"Midway is selling off the Mortal Kombat franchise, ending a long-running association with the series as it tries to save itself from financial meltdown.

Having debuted in 1992 with the seminal arcade hit, the franchise spawned some 17 games during its time under Midway, the most recent of which, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, launched to a generally warm response towards the end of last year. "

Looks like Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is the last Mortal Kombat game under Midway. No word yet on who may be interested in taking Mortal Kombat over, but we can only ponder. Wouldn't it be interesting if Capcom, Namco or Koei/Tecmo did?
