GameStop's chunk of the used video games market may be diminishing as more retailers are jumping on the used video game sales market. It's a good thing to balance out GameStop's dominance. As a consumer on the end of it, you may find that you're selling a game for less than half the cost to GameStop, while they in turn may be marking the same game down only $5 less than the new retail game cost. It's a huge chunk of profit for them. Toys R Us is experimenting with buying and trading used video games. A few select stores are said to be trying it out (not online). Let us know if you've seen any offerings in your area, but we haven't seen any in our local area. Amazon.com has also kicked off a beta video game trade-in program. In exchange for your games, Amazon.com will give you a gift card. Through March 19, 2009, they are also offering 10% off a game or accessory when you do a trade-in. Use the lookup tool here to see what the trade-in value of your game is. Best Buy is also rumored to be entering the used video game sales market, although there is little information on that currently. Circuit City is another retailer that had made an attempt in the used games market in 2007, but we all know what happened to the company as a whole. If you're looking to maintain your game's value to the maximum, you may want to look into online game trading services like Goozex. Online game rental service GameFly offers trade-ins as well (except in Utah and Florida). If eligible in your region, GameFly is offering up to 25% more credit for Wii trade-ins in March 2009. Then there's always eBay, which may still be the best solution to cash out your video games. Gamers may find they need to let go or trade up their games to keep up during these economic times, but there's no reason to jump at the first offer with all the alternatives out there.
