Don't call it an "on-rails" shooter. Steve Papoutsis, the Executive Producer on the Wii's Dead Space Extraction, says it is a "Guided First Person Experience" and adopting new gameplay mechanics to the traditional "on-rails" game. "We are calling our game a Guided First Person Experience as we are aiming to create our own genre through innovating on classic gameplay concepts," Steve stated on the Dead Space Blog. Veterans of the original Dead Space game will remember gameplay controls such as Strategic Dismemberment, Stasis, Telekinesis, and Zero-G. All of that will be in Dead Space Extraction. That requires more than just pointing on the screen and shooting. How they will pull it off, we'll have to see. There's also mention of drop-in/drop-out co-op gameplay, something that wasn't in the original Dead Space. Steve also notes some of the new characters and the tie-in to the Dead Space Downfall movie and comic, as well as taking place in some part of the Ishimura (setting of the original Dead Space game). Stop by and check out various screenshots and artwork from Dead Space Extraction here and you'll see some that are familiar, and some not so familiar.
