Patapon 2 to be a digital download, even from retailers (no UMD) PDF Print E-mail

Sony's upcoming PSP game, Patapon 2 won't be available on a UMD (disc) when it releases this May. The PSP game will be available from retail stores, but you'll be getting a download code. The Amazon.com description notes: "Package includes activation code (instead of a UMD disc)".

An article on IGN also confirms it. Sony Computer Entertainment's Patrick Seybold stated: "We're considering a digital-only format for the Patapon 2 release as a one-time test case as we continue to explore consumer preferences for digital content. The downloadable game will be available on May 5th at both retail and via the PlayStation Store."

The file size is currently unknown, but if you're planning on getting Patapon 2, make sure you leave some extra storage space on your Memory Stick. Hopefully retailers will make it clear that this is a digital download only release.

Patapon 2 is scheduled for a May 5, 2009 release for $19.99. A demo is available with pre-orders.

AWSOME! I hope this is a trend that catches on... I really can't stand going to Gamestop anymore and would much rather download my game without having to deal with any pushy clerks.
