The first Wii Remote-less gun controller is set to show at E3. Peripheral and accessory creator Penguin United is getting ready to show a new Wii gun controller that doesn't require the use of a Wii Remote controller. Typically, Wii gun peripherals are a plastic shell that you put the Wii Remote into (see some examples here). Penguin United has taken it a bit further and created the CrossFire Remote Pistol, which repositions some buttons and controls for easier use.

From Penguin United:
"The CrossFire is the first and only available gun for Wii that has the remote already integrated into the guns design. Additionally, the A and B buttons, and D-Pad have been repositioned for easy access and functionality.

Product Highlights:

Self-contained remote gun – does not require inserting Wii remote into gun “shell”
Designed to create a true gun experience
A-Button repositioned for thumb access while holding pistol
B-Button repositioned for trigger finger access
D-Pad repositioned for immediate thumb access
Works as regular remote for non-shooter games
Enhanced Vibration function
Built-in Speaker enhances audio experience

“The CrossFire pistol will change the way shooting games are enjoyed on the Wii platform,” emphasized Richard Huang, Penguin United’s President. “Previous gun designs are bulky and just don’t work very well. The CrossFire will offer gamers all the benefits of the normal Wii remote as well as providing a true “gun” experience."

Watch for more soon. The CrossFire gun will be shown at E3 starting June 3rd at the Penguin United booth.

UPDATE 5/5/09: Added rendering images of the CrossFire Remote Pistol. See a closer look at where some of the Wii Remote buttons will be in the rendered image below. Looks like a much more compact design without having to use a Wii Remote.

The home, +, - buttons and Wii player number indicator lights are shown in this rendering.

i had this concept drawn up the year the wii came out, maybe i should contact them and let them steal drawing for exchange for 4 free controllers when theres comes out, i have a feeling there design is goining to be to bulky for the average persons hand and too heavy

I've been buying peripherals from Penguin Unlimited for some time and seems to be their best work.I hope they can deliver on their promises.
