The summer movie season is in full swing and EA Mobile is capitalizing on the popularity of some of the properties with their own lineup of games. Although some of the games are already out, the popularity of the iPhone is now a concentration of EA’s because marketing for these games are so difficult. Their movie-based lineup includes the following games: G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Trek. If you haven’t noticed, two of those games are already out and the others are coming to mobile devices closer to their corresponding film’s release. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is now available on feature phones and Star Trek is available for the iPhone/iPod touch, whereas G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince will both be available sometime in July for the same platforms. It seems like EA Mobile is capitalizing on the growing mobile market with some interesting titles, but the quality of these games can vary drastically. As of late though, with the saturation of the mobile market, a more quality game will sell more units than just movie based title. Adam Sussman, VP of Worldwide Publishing seems to share that sentiment, “There are a lot of great movies this summer that translate into exciting mobile entertainment experiences, including these phenomenally popular franchises…these are four of the hottest films this year, and EA Mobile is proud to bring fantastic game companions of each title to mobile phones.” Movie games do have a bad reputation and throw a movie based mobile game into the mix, EA Mobile is going to have to prove to the gaming community that they can deliver quality titles.
