Atari announced today that Ghostbusters: The Video Game has sold over 1 million units of the game since its June 16th debut. This includes units sold in North America for the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3, Wii, PC, PS2 and Nintendo DS.

“We are very pleased with the performance of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and credit the game’s quality as well as the incredible support from both the established and new fan-base all helping to make this a retail success,” said Jim Wilson, Atari CEO. "Ghostbusters appears to be a strong and relevant movie-based franchise videogame independent of a brand-new theatrical release. We look forward to the continued success of the title as interest and acclaim increase across North America.”

About Ghostbusters: The Video Game:
"Set two years after Ghostbusters II, with Manhattan once again overrun by ghosts and supernatural forces, the game also features performances from fan favourites such as William Atherton (Walter Peck), Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz) and Brian Doyle-Murray (portraying Mayor Jock Mulligan)".

Wow, I'll bet Sierra wished they didn't drop Ghostbusters now... if Brutal Legend is a success (don't hold your breath) then Sierra will REALLY be kicking themselves!
