UPDATE: It's official. See the pictures, announcement video and details here. PlayStation 3 "Slim" rumors have been making their rounds online for the last week, but this morning brings undeniable evidence from retailer K-Mart. Kotaku previously reported on a rotating banner advertising a "new low price and a new exciting Playstation 3." Now appearing this morning on the front page of kmart.com is a banner saying "THE RUMORS ARE A REALITY: New Exciting PlayStation 3. Pre-order now." and a listing. The listing also appears on sears.com as well. Both websites list the price at $299.99, the lowest PS3 price point to date. A 8/24/09 release date is also shown. No official announcement has been released by Sony yet. We should know more soon enough from Sony's press conference at the Cologne gamescom Expo (12 noon ET). Note that the PlayStation Network will be down today from 12 noon to 2pm EST. More to come later today!
