Nintendo has released sales information of Wii Sports Resort, which launched on July 26, 2009 in the US. Even with overall video game industry sales dropping the past few months (according to NPD Group data), Nintendo is still managing to do well with the Wii game. In the United States, Wii Sports Resort has sold over 1 million units in its first month of availability (see sales chart above). In both Japan and Europe, Wii Sports Resort has sold over 1 million units as well. The Wii MotionPlus, a required motion enhancing accessory for the game, is also selling well with over 2 million Wii MotionPlus accessories sold in the US. Wii Sports Resort does include one Wii MotionPlus accessory, but extra Wii MotionPlus accessories ($19.99 each) may be required if up to 4 people are playing. “Millions of consumers worldwide have demonstrated that they want their summer vacations to keep going,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Wii Sports Resort provides both novice and veteran players a fun, virtual escape to a resort island with their friends and family - something that will be even more appealing as the weather turns cooler this fall and winter.” For more information on Wii Sports Resort, visit WiiSportsResort.com. Wii Sports Resort is currently available for $45.99 with one Wii MotionPlus accessory from Amazon.com. Read our review of Wii Sports Resort here. See the full press release from Nintendo below.
