The NPD Group has reported August 2009 game sales, which accounted for $470.32 million in software (game) sales and $297.60 million in hardware sales. Video game industry sales are down 16% compared to 2008, but things should be changing in September as we enter the busy holiday season releases and new game hardware offerings.

With the introduction of the PlayStation 3 120 GB ("Slim") at the very end of August, the new Xbox 360 system price drop, and a new line of DSi colors, September 2009 NPD hardware numbers should be on their way up. Count games like Guitar Hero 5, The Beatles: Rock Band, Halo 3: ODST, and Wii Fit Plus at the end of the month, and things should be looking up on the game software side as well.
