Junk: Battles is a new free to play online game, from game developer Antic Entertainment. Gamers will recognize the names of some companies that the founders of Antic Entertainment come from. Fredrik Liljegren, the founder of Antic Entertainment, was also the founder of DICE Sweden. DICE is now owned by Electronic Arts. Mark Mikulec and Jeff Evans, also founders of Antic Entertainment, are both from Digital Extremes. The developers of Junk: Battles also come from other games such as Battlefield, Dark Sector and BioShock. So you can expect years of gaming experience to back up Junk: Battles.

Junk: Battles is essentially a strategy game with a mix of action. It plays out with stats, and booster packs, like strategy card games (Magic: The Gathering, Vampire: The Masquerade, etc.). The world is very different from those card-based fantasy games, as it takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting. In Junk: Battles you'll enter the world of Brokin and use the currency of Metal and Oil. Metal is gained by battling other players online. Oil can be purchased for premium vehicle parts and your avatar's gear. Antic Entertainment has opened the game for everyone using this method, allowing you to support them by purchasing Oil in quantities starting at $9.95 USD.

When you get started, you create your character, choose some clothes and select your first gear to get you going. You'll then get to build your Craft, your machine for battling others online. Finally, you get to put it to the test in an arena battle. A tutorial guides you through each of the critical steps in playing. There's a helpful live chat available on the bottom window where you can talk to other players, maybe even the developers for some tips. You'll soon be planning and playing out strategies to create the coolest, and deadliest, post-apocalyptic Craft you can.
