Getting To Know Your Developers [GTKYD]: Santiago Cobo from Virtual Toys PDF Print E-mail
Written by Alexis M. (Rivithed)

This week's featured game developer for GTKYD is Santiago Cobo, a producer from Virtual Toys. Santiago worked on the recently released WiiWare game, SpaceBall Revolution. The action-puzzle game is another great example of WiiWare's unique offerings. It has an arcade feel, being quick to understand and play but very hard to stop playing, and tough to master. SpaceBall Revolution even supports online worldwide rankings and will get continued support from the developers with new downloadable challenges. Get to learn more about Santiago below, see what is coming from Virtual Toys, and then dive into some SpaceBall Revolution!

Who are you and what do you do in the gaming industry?

Santiago Cobo: Hi, this is Santiago Cobo and I am producer at Virtual Toys.

What are you currently working on or have recently released?

SC: We have just finished Spaceball Revolution, a very addictive WiiWare game. The game’s reviews are fantastic and I think the game will set up the benchmark for WiiWare. This year we’ve also launched: Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam and VT tennis 2010 for DSi. Hoopworld for WiiWare. We will launch Spaceball Revolution for DSi and PSN too.

How did you get into the games industry?

SC: I got into the games industry as a designer ten years ago. I began contributing in the projects with my ideas and, progressively started gaining influence. Currently, Victor (my colleague) and I organize Virtual Toys’ projects following a work method that we have developed during these last years.

What is your favorite game you have every played on any console and why?

SC: God of War for Playstation 2 is my favourite console game. Why? For all its aspects, graphics, playability, history. I think God of War reaches the limits of the Playstation 2.

What game(s) are you currently playing?

SC: Dead Space and Resident Evil 5 for Xbox 360 and Spaceball Revolution for WiiWare of course. (Regarding Spaceball Revolution, I'm trying to position myself as number one in the world ranking but it is complicated.)

Which games are you looking forward to playing in the next year and why?

SC: I hope a lot of "DeathSpank."

What was the last game that you finished?

SC: Gears of War 2.

What is next for you?

SC: After having produced Spaceball Revolution, I wish to take several days to relax. After this, I will work on other projects for Virtual Toys.

Anything else you're itching to tell us?

SC: I would like for everyone to play Spaceball Revolution. It is a great experience and sincerely I think this game must be on WiiWare’s catalogue top ten ranking. I would like to tell your readers that Virtual Toys will be launching great games in the next months. You must be alert!
