The graphic geniuses over in Europe, also known as Crytek, have released their next game engine, CryENGINE 3. According to Crytek, this is the first game engine that can be used to develop Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC games on the same development PC. This is truly the “next-gen” game engine due to its ability to use DirectX 9 and 10 along with scalability for all upcoming platforms. But the most innovative part of CryENGINE 3 is the “Live Create” function, which allows developers to see and play their games in development on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in real time. That is great to hear for all multiplatform developers because instead of 3 different PCs or environments, now their development can be done all on one, minimizing cost and time. In these somewhat troublesome economic times, developers may turn to Crytek and CryENGINE 3 for any or all of their upcoming games. “With CryENGINE 3 we are releasing the best development solution available today and tomorrow. With its scalable graphics and computation it is next-gen ready and with new features like CryENGINE 3 Live Create the best choice for game developers and companies developing serious games applications alike. It is the only game engine solution that enables real-time development and can ensure teams are able to maximize their own creativity, save budget and create greater gaming experiences.” said Cevat Yerli, CEO & President of Crytek. Glad to see that there is now even more competition in the game engine licensing scene (that sounds really nerdy, doesn’t it). Maybe the Unreal Engine, created by Gears of War developer Epic Games, will have stiff competition. We all cannot wait to see their CryENGINE 3 on a console because, if Crysis is any proof, Crytek makes some very, very good looking games. See more on the CryENGINE 3 here at the official website.
