There are many choices when it comes to skinning your gaming system out there, but GelaSkins offers a unique and very easy to use system to design your very own. Best of all, it's all done online using their "Create Your Own" application on GelaSkins.com. Have you been itching for a skin featuring your favorite game or do you want to brand your game console with your own unique design? GelaSkins D.I.Y. makes it fun and extremely easy. I took it for a spin to apply a favorite gaming illustration to my Nintendo DSi.

Applying artwork to your device design template is all done online. You start by picking your device. There are currently game system templates for the Wii, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi, Sony PSP-1000 and Sony PSP Slim series (PSP-2000, PSP-3000). In addition to those consoles, you can get a custom faceplate design for Guitar Hero and Rock Band guitar controllers, not to mention the plenty of other devices, like the iPhone. The price varies for each, but they're around the usual price you would expect to pay for a pre-made skin. The Nintendo DSi skin is $19.95, a Wii skin is $29.99.

After selecting your device, you upload the different artwork you'll be using (PNG, JPG or GIF files). You then begin your layout by adding the different images to the template. The template I was doing my design for was the Nintendo DSi. This included layout options for the inside (top and bottom panels) and outside (top and bottom). The interface for application is very simple to use. You can move, rotate and scale your images on the template, which also shows you where all the screen and other cutout areas will be. You can also set the background color. It's all drag and drop, making it really easy to do. Once you are done applying your images to the design template, you can move on to preview it on the actual device you are skinning.

You get a nice snapshot of your custom skin on the device, in this case the inside of the Nintendo DSi. There's also an option to share your design creation via Twitter or Facebook. At this point, you're pretty much ready to checkout and order your skin. The custom skin is shipped within two days of ordering, via UPS.

Check out GelaSkins.com "Create Your Own" website here and give it a go! A demo tutorial video is even available should you need help in designing your skin. GelaSkins has an simple and fun to use system for doing your very own full color design. I'll post an update with pictures of my newly skinned Nintendo DSi soon, so keep a lookout here!
