It has been a while since catching up with the progress on Dungeon Defenders. Almost one year. But what a difference the development time makes for the Unreal Engine powered game, which melds tower defense strategy and action-RPG genres. Previously known as “Dungeon Defense” (see here), it was anticipated for the PC, but unknown what game platforms it would be released on. Today game developer Trendy Entertainment announced it would be released on the PlayStation 3 (PlayStation Network), Xbox 360 (Xbox LIVE Arcade) and PC (Steam, Impulse, GamersGate) this fall. The PlayStation 3 release will even include support of its latest tech, both 3D and PlayStation Move.
“Dungeon Defenders turns the tower defense genre on its head and adds a degree of depth seldom seen in a digital title,” said Jeremy Stieglitz, development director of Trendy Entertainment. “There is meaty character leveling and customization, awesome loot drops and plenty of team-oriented defensive strategy to manage, but then you have this action-packed wave-based standoff that gets continually more intense. It’s as deep as it is instantly fun.”
Dungeon Defenders supports 4-player online and local gameplay, and includes 15 arenas and various gameplay modes. Keep this game on your radar! You can see a previous build of it as “Dungeon Defense” on Epic Games’ UDK Showcase.
