What’s happening with Need for Speed this year? Electronic Arts has released details on the future of Need for Speed and what the popular racing game has planned for gamers across the world.
Need for Speed SHIFT will be arriving this fall 2009 and will suit anyone looking for that perfect racing simulation game. The game will feature realistic driving as if you were in a top end high-speed vehicle. Developed by Slightly Mad Studios with help from Micheal Mann at Black Box, Senior vice president Patrick Soderlund from EA Games Europe, and some developers and designers that have worked on the games GT Legends and GTR2, Need for Speed SHIFT will prove if it’s the perfect competition for big games such as Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo. The game will appear on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PSP.
Need for Speed NITRO (Working Title) will also be hitting store shelves in fall 2009, exclusively for the Wii and Nintendo DS. If you enjoyed the previous Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, I’m sure this game will be for you. Developed by EA Montreal, players find themselves racing one another while trying to get away from the cops. With a full line of beautiful cars that you may fully customize to your own preference, this game will be sure to get your adrenaline going!
And last, but definitely not least, Need for Speed World Online will be racing on to PCs in winter 2009 (or summer 2009 in Asia). This no-subscription based online racing game gives you the chance to race people from all over the world with your fully customized vehicle and make your way to #1 in the Need for Speed leaderboards.
“We recognize racing videogame fans are very passionate and unique – they want customized gameplay experiences. Whether it’s more of a realistic driving game with accurate car physics or over-the-top cop chases, we are making different games for different audiences,” said Keith Munro, vice president of marketing, Need for Speed. “Each game provides a deep, engaging and rich racing experience. Were giving players the option to choose the best racing title that suits their style of gameplay.”
