Another creative application of the Unreal Engine has surfaced, thanks to game developer Trendy Entertainment and Epic Games’ Unreal Development Kit (UDK). A PC demo for Dungeon Defense is now available (here). The game is a unique blend of tower defense strategy and action-RPG, built in a game engine that is traditionally known for first and third person shooters.

Here’s a summary of Dungeon Defense from Trendy Entertainment:
"The game puts players in the role of one of four distinct hero classes, tasked with fending off hordes of invading beasties by summoning Defenses & Traps throughout their lair. But as far more than just a strategy game, players can directly participate in combat with their characters, while upgrading their statistics, looting equipment, and gaining special abilities. All of this can be enjoyed in seamless online and local multiplayer, as players cooperate and compete to build the strongest heroes and achieve the highest scores."

Obviously Dungeon Defense proves that the Unreal Engine is capable of more than the FPS genre. Also pretty surprising is that the game was built in just one month. You can dissect how it was done in a great breakdown at forums.epicgames.com.

We are very happy “Monday Night Fight” use the resources of the Unreal Engine 3 for the console downloadable games. Uber Entertainment has achieved a lot in game development, and in a short time, we can not wait to play online.
