PlayStation 3 gamers look like they’re in for a retro-style gaming treat with Explodemon, an upcoming download game.  If you like 2.5D side-scrolling action games, set your sights on Explodemon. On the surface, Explodemon looks like a cross between the Xbox 360′s Splosion Man and the 16-bit era of  Mega Man. You can expect “physics-based puzzles” in the gameplay, as found in some recent side-scrolling games like Limbo and Trine.

Here’s a bit about the story in Explodemon, from Curve Studios:
“When the peaceful planet of Nibia is attacked by the malicious Vortex forces, the fate of the star system is thrust into the one pair of hands it shouldn’t be: the malfunctioning Guardian robot Explodemon. His comic quest to repel the onslaught and restore peace will take him across three distinct planets over twelve levels, with new abilities and gameplay mechanics introduced throughout.”

Sounds like Explodemon should make for some fun, explosive deaths. Explodemon is in development by Curve Studios (who have a very cool website, which you should check out here). Keep a lookout for Explodemon on the PlayStation Network in Q4 2010. Explodemon will also be released for the PC and WiiWare in the retro future.
