SEGA today announced via the US PlayStation Blog that their hit series Yakuza will be making the move westward on the PS3 in March 2010. The latest installment aptly titled Yakuza 3 will be localized for the North American market for the PlayStation 3. Coming in March 2010, Yakuza 3 follows Kiryu Kazuma as he tries to start a new life in Okinawa running an orphanage. In very cliché video game form, Kiryu’s friend is found dead and he must find the killer and avenge his death.

What is interesting is the fact that SEGA was very unsure about releasing the game in North America, but listened to their fans wishes. I can’t say enough how awesome it is these days that a major publisher would take a risk like this to bring a very Japanese game to the US market. Personally, I have not played any of the Yakuza games, but I wish I still had my PS2 to give them a whirl. Let us know in the comments what you think about this decision; will it pay off?

Also, head on over to the US PlayStation Blog to comment and maybe get your developer questions answered by the team. Look for more information as it is released from SEGA, and we will surely pass it along.
