Sony PSP Video Camera Announced: Go!Cam Details and Pictures

Hot on the heels of the PS3′s PlayStation Eye comes the announcement of a camera for the Sony PSP. Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced an attachable video camera for the Sony Playstation Portable, the Go!Cam.


Using a 4 Gig Memory Stick PRO Duo, up to 2.5 hours of video can be recorded or 40,000 photos can be taken. The camera lens swivels vertically 180 degrees. Included with the camera is Go!Edit for editing recorded photos, video and audio. You’ll also be able to upload your captured media via the PSP’s wireless internet connection.


The Go!Cam has been announced for a May 16, 2007 release across Europe and the PAL territories with a retail price of of €49.99 (about $70 USD). The US release date and pricing will likely be announced very soon. We’ll post an update here with the release date and pricing in the US.

UPDATE 5/3/07: We received the following response from Sony’s US PlayStation Portable PR Manager: “We don’t have an update on any PSP camera peripheral for the U.S. at this point, but we’re always evaluating opportunities to expand the features of the PSP.” So as it appears right now, there’s no tentative release date fo the Go!Cam in the US. We’ll keep you updated.

UPDATE 12/15/09: If you want to import the PSP Go Cam, check availability from Play Asia or Amazon.com. Check your PSP model number to make sure it is compatible with the PSP Go Cam.

To be released on 16th May 2007 across Europe and the PAL territories, Go!Cam promises to bring the creativity of film, photos and the fun of PSP together to create a camera for all ages and all occasions. With a retail price of €49.99 (£34.99), Go!Cam is yet another example of how PSP is a mobile entertainment system with no limits.
