The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition

Today, Bethesda Softworks has finally announced The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition. It may be no surprise to fans that a Collector’s Edition was in the works, or very highly hoped for, but Bethesda has unveiled the details of it today. Jumping right to it, here is what will be included in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition alongside the game (as noted by Bethesda):

  • Alduin Statue: Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector’s only statue stands 12” tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater. He stands perched atop one the game’s many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons.
  • ‘The Art of Skyrim’ Official Art Book: Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-color illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 9 3/8” x 12 1/8” coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments, and weaponry of Skyrim. With a foreword by game director Todd Howard and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists, readers will be guided through the game’s iconic visual style.
  • ‘The Making of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ DVD This documentary DVD contains exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage, including interviews with the Bethesda Game Studios team as they take you from concept to creation and provide insights into the story, gameplay, setting, legacy of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and much more.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition is now available for pre-order, which will retail at $149.99 on its 11.11.11 release date. Dragon statue, fantasy art book and map make this RPG bundle complete. Your cue not to lose out on this ultimate fantasy package? It will be available in “extremely limited quantities.” Pre-order The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition here for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or PC.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim screens

Bethesda Softworks has posted answers to fan questions on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim here at The Elder Scrolls forums. If you’re still here, the questions are answered by Todd Howard (Game Director), Bruce Nesmith (Lead Designer) and Matt Carofano (Lead Artist). Among some of the features noted are more quests (but less branching paths), dragon armor, tavern brawls, and gameplay will remain open upon completing the main quest (as in Oblivion). Get the full details from the Skyrim team at forums.bethsoft.com.

Oh, and don’t forget that next week Bethesda Softworks is releasing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)! Thanks to @fugie7 for the heads up!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

If there is one thing that gets role-playing game fanatics excited, it’s the feel of a cloth map. Bethesda Softworks blesses its upcoming game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, with a nice pre-order bonus. Pre-order Skyrim for the Xbox 360, PS3 or PC to secure your Skyrim Cloth Map. Bethesda says the map is “a high-grade material that has a feel similar to burlap.” Few console games have included a cloth map (the only one I can think of is the Dragon Age Collector’s Edition). The standard Skyrim package will include a map as well, but its the weaker poster version. Pre-order to make you feel more Dovahkiin in your journey.

The Elder Scrolls V: SkyrimI’m almost sold on it, but still holding out for word of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition. Bethesda has not announced anything on it, but Oblivion was treated with a Collector’s Edition. Hopefully Bethesda will go all out as it did for Fallout 3. I would love to see a dragon statue in the C.E. package. What kind of C.E. content would sell you on it, in lieu of a cloth map?

Remember that a new edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is set to arrive next month (July 12, 2011) with the steelcase Oblivion 5th Anniversary Game of the Year Edition for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC at $29.99. Included is the full Oblivion game, Knights of the Nine DLC and Shivering Isles DLC. It will be packed in a metal case with Daedric symbols along with the Making of Oblivion DVD, an Oblivion map, and $10 off Skyrim coupon.

Prey 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) screens

Bethesda Softworks and Human Head Studios hosted a E3 gameplay preview of Prey 2, the upcoming first-person sci-fi adventure. The 360 degree wall walking in Prey is traded for parkour movement in Prey 2 as players assume the character of Killian Samuels. The former U.S. Marshall was a passenger aboard an airplane that crash landed into the Sphere, during the original Prey game. Players who completed the original game as Tommy should recall the memorable scene. Prey 2 takes place a bit after that, with Killian Samuels turned bounty hunter in the alien planet, Exodus.

Prey 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) screensIn Prey 2, open world gameplay allows for exploration of the alien environments and player choice. Evil deeds won’t go unnoticed, as demonstrated in the demo when a civilian is pushed over a ledge [and laughter ensued]. Soon after, a probe appeared in front of Killian warning him of the reprehensible act. Continue killing civilians, and Killian could have the military police on his trail. This is similar to the warning level seen in many open world games. Killian can scan the environment to chose what bounties to pursue, and then chose what route to capture his bounty. Players can use tactics like intimidation or paying money to get information on a bounty. See the Prey 2 Bounty trailer here on the Beth Blog to get a preview on how bounty hunting works. Another side-mission element is helping out aliens that are being bullied by others. As shown in the gameplay demo, if the player doesn’t act fast enough to help, some of the gangs will eventually kill their victim.

Prey 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) screensPrey 2 takes place in a first-person perspective, but doesn’t force the player to have their guns pointed at all times. The developers noted it would be weird talking to others with a gun pointed at them. They took that thinking and also made it an element that could intimidate others when done.

As briefly mentioned early, parkour gameplay is used to navigate the environment. One mechanic that helped cue the player on where Killian could reach was when he extended his hand. Killian is very agile and capable in moving himself while hanging over ledges or hurtling over obstacles while chasing down prey. There’s definitely an adrenaline rush when chasing down a bounty and attempting a take down. Players will also have to watch out where they decide to apprehend a bounty, as compatriots could be in the vicinity.

Prey 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) screensFrom seeing the gameplay demo of Prey 2, it is hard to tell this is in the same storyline of the original Prey. Not that it is a bad thing. The setting is a rich and colorful alien world, begging to be explored. Imagine somewhat of a sci-fi cocktail of styles from Mass Effect, Blade Runner and The Fifth Element. After seeing how sci-fi rich Prey 2 looks and the smoothly executed maneuvering of Killian, I’m definitely more excited than ever for more.

Don’t miss looking over these screenshots to see the level of detail and bizarre aliens you will encounter in Prey 2. Watch for Prey 2 to be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2012.
