Stacking (PSN, XBLA) from Double Fine

Double Fine has revealed its second mysterious downloadable game, following the release of Costume Quest, with Stacking. Keeping up with their unusual and visually unique game releases, Stacking is a third-person action and puzzle game. The gameplay works with the mechanic of the wonderous Russian Matryoshka (Nesting Doll). In Stacking, the player can sneak up and stack inside of other characters, or dolls, larger than its size. Imagine it like a possession of sorts. Then the player can utilize the ability of the larger doll it has taken control of.  Stacking has been created by Brütal Legend art director Lee Petty and the team at Double Fine Productions.

“Stacking is a game about a young chimney sweep named Charlie Blackmore, and his quest to reunite his family after they’ve been forced into indentured servitude by an evil industrialist,” says the reveal posting over at doublefine.com.

Stacking is the second downloadable game to be published by THQ, to be available from the PlayStation 3′s PlayStation Network and Xbox 360′s Xbox LIVE Arcade in spring 2011. See screenshots and more details here at doublefine.com and the introductory trailer of Stacking in action here at IGN.

Brutal Legend – review

in Game Review Bits

Brütal Legend
Platform: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Developed by: Double Fine Productions
Published by: Electronic Arts
Release date: October 13, 2009
Official website: brutallegend.com

Game summary from EA:
“Brütal Legend tells the tale of Eddie Riggs, played by Jack Black. The ultimate roadie, Eddie is the first person anyone calls when they need guitars tuned or stages rigged, and has a love for hot rods and a photographic memory for every heavy metal album cover, and the lyrics those albums contained. One night, a stage accident knocks Eddie unconscious, and he awakens in a world that looks very strange yet oddly familiar, a world where every heavy metal album cover and lyric Eddie knows has come to life, and where the evil emperor Doviculus and his demon army, The Tainted Coil, have enslaved the last remaining humans. When an oppressed people request Eddie’s knowledge of modern warfare, he pulls from his own experience in the only occupation he’s ever had, a roadie for a heavy metal band, and under his command, this barbaric force of hot-rods, Marshall stacks, leather, and chrome will bring this ancient world into the age of metal.”

Review Summary:
If you’ve ever wondered how a ’70s or ’80s Metal album would be like in video game form, Brutal Legend is the world in which you’ll find out. Within this world, created from the mind behind Psychonauts and Grim Fandango, you’ll experience a meld of various gaming genres. Also, with appearances by many famous Metal artists and an amazing soundtrack, gamers are sure to enjoy Brutal Legend. Try a new experience that you can’t go wrong with.
