Halo: Reach Noble Map Pack DLC

Bungie recently announced the first downloadable content for Halo: Reach.  The “Noble Map Pack” will include three new maps called Tempest, Anchor 9, and Breakpoint.  Available November 30th for 800 Microsoft Points ($10), the new Halo: Reach multiplayer maps will allow players access to a UNSC refueling station, an abandoned military base, and an ONI research facility. See screenshots from the “Noble Map Pack” here on bungie.net.

Players have also been asked to show their map-making skills in Forge and submit their creations to Bungie for possible inclusion to future playlists.  One such Bungie community member has already been lucky enough to be immortalized in the October 19th playlist update.  “Atom,” created by JoeSki73, is a small symmetrical map which plays best with 2 to 8 players.  The map is available at the following link: http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=2169751&player=JoeSki73

As for playlist changes, Campaign Matchmaking has recently been added and on October 19th other playlists will be receiving some much needed tweaks.  In Firefight, friendly fire has been turned off (no more random people running into my target locator killzone!) and matches will now last a full set instead of a single round.  Team Snipers and Living Dead have been made into their own playlists and various maps have been tweaked throughout all playlists.

More information can be found in the Bungie Weekly Update at www.bungie.net.

Halo: Reach

This morning at midnight, millions of gamers worldwide were celebrating the highly anticipated release of the latest game in the Halo universe, Halo:Reach. The game, which is a prequel to the original Halo, has created quite the buzz with its numerous launch parties in New York City, London (complete with jetpack launch) and Seattle to name a few.  Alongside plenty of lines outside gaming stores at midnight, the Halo:Reach launch is further testament to the immense following of the Halo series.

Halo:Reach is a collaborative effort between Microsoft and 343 Industries, the company who was left to see through the creation of the Halo universe after Bungie left Microsoft in 2007. The game is evidently the darkest chapter of the Halo mythos, with the surprise Covenant alien attack on the planet Reach, a sister planet to Earth. While many Halo fans are aware of the outcome of Reach, there is a lot to be experienced in the game that brings us the rise of the Spartan soldiers, Noble Team.

Frank O’Connor who works for 343 Industries draws a great comparison between Halo:Reach and Saving Private Ryan: “If you went to see ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ you probably already had a pretty good idea about how World War II ended up, but it didn’t ruin the story,” he says. “In some ways, that’s what ‘Halo: Reach’ is about. It’s about people and their stories, and camaraderie, and the adventures along the way.”Halo Reach - UK Jetpack

From books, to comic books and short films, one can only hope for a potential Halo movie.  With all the recent live-action Halo:Reach advertisements, we are definitely on the possible brink of a Halo movie.  The game universe is reaching the fan base of a similar sci-fi universe, Star Wars.

While Halo 3 broke all previous single-day entertainment launches of all-time, Halo: Reach is no slouch.  It broke the record for largest console video game beta test of all-time with 2.7 million gamers playing the beta. Halo:Reach and its launch continues to propel the series to astronomical heights with more Halo games to come, already penned in an elusive “Halo Bible” as stated by Taylor Smith, Microsoft’s director of global marketing and communications for Xbox.

Halo: Reach is now available for the Xbox 360 in the following editions:

Xbox 360 250GB Halo: Reach Console Bundle
Halo: Reach Standard Edition
Halo: Reach Limited Edition
Halo: Reach Legendary Edition
