A new System Update (6.10) is now available for download for the PlayStation Portable. This comes right before the PSPgo launch. PSPgo owners, as well as PSP-1000 to 3000 owners, should download the update.

During the install, the following update detail is noted:
"The importing of playlists from the Media Go application is now supported under [Music]."

That’s not all this enables, however. The update allows you to get SensMe, a free new music application for the PSP and PSPgo. Sony says SensMe uses "12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from Media Go application on your PC to your PSP." That allows you to categorize music according to mood or feeling. Once you install the 6.10 update, go to your Music section and you will see the SensMe channels icon, which has a link to download it (14MB download). Once you download it, click on the SensMe channels icon to run it. Sony created a video demo of SensMe, which you can see below.

With this update, tethering is also enabled for the PSPgo (not other PSPs). You can use a bluetooth mobile device (phone) to connect your PSPgo to the internet when WiFi is unavailable. There are more details posted on the US PlayStation Blog of the other updates that will be available on October 1st, which explain more of the new PlayStation Store design for the PSP, and Media Go.

There is a new Wii Menu System Update available for download. Wii system 4.1 gets a slight bump up to Wii Menu Update 4.2. Don’t expect to see any changes, unless you are running something that Nintendo doesn’t want you to. If your Wii system uses Wii Connect 24 (is always online via WiFi), you should have received an email from Nintendo in your Wii inbox. An "Update" button in the letter allows you to download system update 4.2. You can also download the System Update by going to your Wii System Settings and selecting the System Update option.

Here are the details of what System Update 4.2 addresses, from Nintendo:
"This update provides behind-the-scenes fixes that will not affect features but will improve the overall system performance. Because unauthorized modifications to save data or program files may impair game play or the Wii console, updating to Wii Menu version 4.2 will also check for and automatically remove such save data or program files."

It’s time to refresh your PLAYSTATION 3 firmware. A new system update is now available for download. Take your PLAYSTATION 3 online and you’ll be notified that a new system update is available. This is another one of those mysterious updates, since the install doesn’t tell you what is being upgraded or installed. The PlayStation Blog (here) does explain it is a “minor update that improves the playback quality of some PS3 format software.”
