Prey 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) screens

Bethesda Softworks and Human Head Studios hosted a E3 gameplay preview of Prey 2, the upcoming first-person sci-fi adventure. The 360 degree wall walking in Prey is traded for parkour movement in Prey 2 as players assume the character of Killian Samuels. The former U.S. Marshall was a passenger aboard an airplane that crash landed into the Sphere, during the original Prey game. Players who completed the original game as Tommy should recall the memorable scene. Prey 2 takes place a bit after that, with Killian Samuels turned bounty hunter in the alien planet, Exodus.

Prey 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) screensIn Prey 2, open world gameplay allows for exploration of the alien environments and player choice. Evil deeds won’t go unnoticed, as demonstrated in the demo when a civilian is pushed over a ledge [and laughter ensued]. Soon after, a probe appeared in front of Killian warning him of the reprehensible act. Continue killing civilians, and Killian could have the military police on his trail. This is similar to the warning level seen in many open world games. Killian can scan the environment to chose what bounties to pursue, and then chose what route to capture his bounty. Players can use tactics like intimidation or paying money to get information on a bounty. See the Prey 2 Bounty trailer here on the Beth Blog to get a preview on how bounty hunting works. Another side-mission element is helping out aliens that are being bullied by others. As shown in the gameplay demo, if the player doesn’t act fast enough to help, some of the gangs will eventually kill their victim.

Prey 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) screensPrey 2 takes place in a first-person perspective, but doesn’t force the player to have their guns pointed at all times. The developers noted it would be weird talking to others with a gun pointed at them. They took that thinking and also made it an element that could intimidate others when done.

As briefly mentioned early, parkour gameplay is used to navigate the environment. One mechanic that helped cue the player on where Killian could reach was when he extended his hand. Killian is very agile and capable in moving himself while hanging over ledges or hurtling over obstacles while chasing down prey. There’s definitely an adrenaline rush when chasing down a bounty and attempting a take down. Players will also have to watch out where they decide to apprehend a bounty, as compatriots could be in the vicinity.

Prey 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) screensFrom seeing the gameplay demo of Prey 2, it is hard to tell this is in the same storyline of the original Prey. Not that it is a bad thing. The setting is a rich and colorful alien world, begging to be explored. Imagine somewhat of a sci-fi cocktail of styles from Mass Effect, Blade Runner and The Fifth Element. After seeing how sci-fi rich Prey 2 looks and the smoothly executed maneuvering of Killian, I’m definitely more excited than ever for more.

Don’t miss looking over these screenshots to see the level of detail and bizarre aliens you will encounter in Prey 2. Watch for Prey 2 to be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2012.

Dead Space 2 multiplayer

Dead Space 2 will have multiplayer, and it isn’t any old tacked-on zombie mode. The first Dead Space game was a single-player only game. With Dead Space 2, the horror never ends with the introduction of a multiplayer gameplay mode. EA and Visceral Games hosted a multiplayer preview event last week where Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer on Dead Space 2, introduced what players can look forward to in the multiplayer Humans vs. Necromorphs gameplay.

Watch the Dead Space 2 multiplayer gameplay trailer here.

See Steve Papoutsis discuss more details on the Dead Space 2 multiplayer here on gametrailers.com. From the looks of it, Visceral Games is creating a multiplayer experience that compliments Dead Space 2 and is doing it with a purpose. It’s good to see this isn’t the same old kind of re-hashed multiplayer gameplay types.

Dead Space 2 will be available January 25, 2011 for the PlayStation 3 (in an exclusive Limited Edition with Dead Space Extraction HD), Xbox 360 and PC. Keep a lookout for more information here on GamingBits.com, deadspace.ea.com and the official Dead Space Facebook page.

PAC-MAN collides with casual gameplay in Namco’s new PAC-MAN Pizza Parlor game. Why a Pizza Parlor? Namco said that the inspiration for the famous PAC-MAN game character came from PAC-MAN creator Toru Iwatani seeing the form of PAC-MAN in a missing slice from a pizza. PAC-MAN Pizza Parlor isn’t the pellet chomping PAC-MAN as you know it from the arcade. It is more like the "Time Management" genre, as in Diner Dash, where you have to serve customers in a limited amount of time. There’s even a "Match Three" mini-game in PAC-MAN Pizza Parlor, like the popular Bejeweled games. If you’re a fan of those types of games and want it wrapped in PAC-MAN style, check out PAC-MAN Pizza Parlor.

About PAC-MAN Pizza Parlor [see a gameplay video below]:
"In the newest PAC-MAN rendition, PAC-MAN Pizza Parlor, players help Cathy cook up orders for her hungry customers by guiding PAC-MAN around the conveyer belt and collecting ingredients. The faster an order is filled, the higher the tip – providing players the option to purchase upgrades and customize their kitchen for speedier service. Players will advance to the next stage once they meet their daily goals, and will periodically play through mini-games between levels."

You can try out a PC demo of PAC-MAN Pizza Parlor here, which is a 60-minute game demo. The full game, which includes 80 stages, is $9.99. A Mac version of the game should be out soon as well.

Visit the official PAC-MAN website here for more details and screens.
