Golden Axe Video Documentary From SEGA

by GamingBits on September 20, 2008

in General Gaming News Bits

SEGA has put together a nice little video on the original Golden Axe to get you schooled on the history of the game. The video, “Act 1 – In The Beginning,” has commentary from the creator of Golden Axe, Makoto Uchida, various game journalists, and Secret Level. Even a guest appearance from the SEGA Genesis. Secret Level is the developer from the upcoming October release of the new Golden Axe game, Golden Axe: Beast Rider.

SEGA and Secret Level may have just released Iron Man yesterday, but Secret Level is at work on the next release for SEGA: Golden Axe Beast Rider. SEGA Blog’s SegaDawg shares an inside peek into the development of Golden Axe Beast Rider. A few bits of level design, artwork, new screenshots, and Secret Level’s studio, can be seen here on SEGA Blog’s Flickr page. Golden Axe, a co-op side-scrolling action adventure, was originally released in the arcades in the late ’80s. Golden Axe Beast Rider looks like it’s featuring one element found in the original: fighting atop different creatures (or steeds). Sounds like there will be plenty of axe and sword combat as well.

A highlight of the features, as noted by SEGA:
- Beast-Riding and Savage Combat: Players will cut down enemies while riding on an array of deadly, magical beasts.
- Brutal Melee Action: With swords and axes, players will unleash barbaric killing moves and dismembering attacks.
- Spells & Magic Weapons: Weapon upgrades and powerful unlockable elemental-based spells and magic will give players the advantage in battle.
- Harsh & Desolate Landscapes: There is a huge, ravaged, destructible world to explore… and survive.
- Classic Golden Axe Legacy: As the young warrior, Tyris Flare, players will encounter familiar friends and foes, and collect power-ups from pesky gnomes in a magical world of beasts.
- New Story Details Revealed: Players will discover events that took place before the original Golden Axe™ storyline as Tyris Flare, the famous half-Gladiator/half-Barbarian heroine, begins the epic quest to avenge her tribe.

Golden Axe Beast Rider will be available for the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.
