Other controllers will be available separately in Europe beginning November 20th, in black as well, including the Classic Pro, Wii Remote controller, Wii Motion Plus and Nunchuck controllers. Today Nintendo announced the North America release date of the black versions of the Wii Remote, Wii MotionPlus and Nunchuk controller. It’s the first time that Nintendo is changing the color of the Wii hardware since it has been available in only white. There are no announced plans from Nintendo to release a black console of the Wii, although it has been released in Japan (see here).

Here’s the full announcement from Nintendo:
“Nintendo’s iconic Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers are getting a new look, just in time for the holidays. Ever since the Wii™ system launched in November 2006, the controllers have been available only in white. On Nov. 16, Nintendo introduces new black versions.

The new black Wii Remote controller will be available packaged with a black Wii MotionPlus™ accessory, which brings enhanced precision to games. The package will be available at a suggested retail price of $49.99. The black Nunchuk controller will be available separately at a suggested retail price of $19.99.

“The Wii Remote revolutionized not only how people play games, but also who plays them,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The new color lets people customize their setup, and the controllers make great stocking stuffers for players of any age.”

Watch for the Black Wii Remote controller with Wii MotionPlus when it becomes available for ordering here. The Black Wii Nunchuk is available for pre-order here.

Nintendo’s Wii system and accessories have only been available in a white color in the US since its launch. It’s hard to imagine when compared to other current generation systems, which have had a variety of color options for their controllers or consoles. In Japan, a Wii black system bundle and accessories were recently made available (see here). While Nintendo of America hasn’t announced a black Wii system for the US, a new Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus Black bundle has just been announced. It’s the first new color option available from Nintendo for the Wii. A Black Nunchuk controller will also be available separately. A specific release date has not been announced for the black colored controllers, but you can expect the black Wii accessories to arrive this holiday season.

Nintendo is releasing a new color for the Nintendo Wii in Japan on August 1st, the Black Edition (or "Color kuro"). Nintendo Japan has a page on its website showing the Black Edition system here. You can see more pictures of the black colored Wii and accessories below.

The Nintendo Wii Black Edition and accessories include:
Nintendo Wii system – Black
Wii Remote – Black
Wii Nunchuk – Black
Wii Classic Controller Pro – Black

There’s also a Wii Monster Hunter 3 Edition bundle coming out in Japan which includes the Black Edition Wii. Pre-orders of the Black Edition Wii system are also available from Play-Asia (here). The bad news is all this is planned (and compatible) for Japan only, at least currently. Maybe Nintendo America will introduce this system if there is enough demand for it in North America. Guessing on their past system releases, you can probably bet we’ll be getting some color variation of the Wii from Nintendo at some point. In the meantime, you may just have to add some color of your own using a system skin from somewhere like Exo-Flex.

The developers from Visceral Games have put together a nice video to show you how controls of Dead Space Extraction have come together on the Wii. In the video, you’ll find Glen Schofield (General Manager of Visceral Games), Steve Papoutsis (Executive Producer), John Calhoun (Senior Designer) and Wright Bagwell (Lead Designer) giving a demo and talking about the unique gameplay elements of Dead Space Extraction. See for yourself how the Glow Worm, Rivet Gun, co-op puzzles and more will work. The controls were carefully considered for the right balance of gameplay, which you can only get on the Wii.

See a layout of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls of Dead Space Extraction here. The video also shows how the use of the Wii Zapper is supported.

Watch the developer video showing Dead Space Extraction’s controls, following the age gate (since this is an M rated Wii game!).
