Creative Labs has conjured up quite a pair of headsets for World of Warcraft enthusiasts. The Sound Blaster World of Warcraft Headset is the ultimate audio accompaniment to take you away on your adventures to Azeroth. There really isn’t anything else quite like it. It’s available in both a Wireless version and Wired version. Before going too far into the details on the Sound Blaster World of Warcraft Headset, I recommend you take a minute to look at the photographs in this gallery here (or below).

Upon first glance of the Sound Blaster World of Warcraft Wireless Headset, you’ll notice the prominently pulsating Horde or Alliance lenses on the ear cups. You can set the interchangeable backlit lenses as you choose, or combine them. Colors can also be customized from the spectrum of choices using the Audio Control Panel software, a free download from the Creative Labs website. Set it red and let it scream "Leave me alone, I’m playing World of Warcraft!" You can also allow the colors to cycle and even set the pulse rate.

The headset is lightweight and very well padded. Yes, they are very comfortable, if they look somewhat bulky to you. The ear cups can be extended or swiveled. The top part of the headset has generous padding as well. You can be assured that your prolonged play sessions in World of Warcraft will be in comfort.

The headset’s interface panels are well designed into the headset. On the Wireless Headset, there’s a Mic Mute and Connect button (for pairing with USB), an input for a detachable microphone (included), mini-USB port with cover, On/Off button, and Volume +/- buttons. You can charge the Wireless headset using the included USB cable while you are using it.

So that’s the physical properties on the Sound Blaster World of Warcraft Wireless Headset, but what about the most important part, the audio? The heart of the audio functionality comes from the Audio Control Panel application, and boy does it bring World of Warcraft to life. Whatever your preference, crystal sharp or heavy bass, you have plenty of audio settings. The THX TruStudio feature creates a full, all encompassing sound. You can fine tune the audio using an EQ, or THX preferences (Crystalizer, Surround, Bass, Dialog Plus, Smart Volume). You even can use voice filters using the Voice FX technology to sound like a Blood Elf Female, Orc Male or Village Elder. There are over 15 voice filters to select from. The Audio Control Panel software lets you customize what you want to hear, and how you want to say it, to your own pleasure.

I should note that at the time of this writing, I was experiencing issues accessing the Mac OS X Audio Control Panel (using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, version 10.6.2). Creative Labs is aware of it and is working on a solution. I was able to use the headset on the Mac, but will need to get the Audio Control Panel working to get access to those audio customization features mentioned. [UPDATE: Creative Labs has released an update to the Mac drivers, which you can now download here.] The Audio Control Panel worked like a charm with Windows 7.

The Sound Blaster World of Warcraft Headset is a truly enjoyable experience. You don’t need to be a World of Warcraft gamer to enjoy the headset, but really World of Warcraft gamers are in for the biggest treat with all the WoW branding. The WoW Headset works using a USB Wireless Transmitter (included with Wireless version) or a USB cable. Note that you’ll only be able to use the headset on a PC/Mac computer, not other gaming consoles. Gamers and fans looking for the ultimate World of Warcraft audio centerpiece, the Sound Blaster World of Warcraft Headset is it.

2K Games today releases BioShock 2 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The sequel continues the undersea first-person action adventure from the 2007 hit, BioShock. BioShock 2 also introduces a multiplayer component. More on the single player and multiplayer experience is detailed below from 2K Games.

"BioShock represented a watershed moment in the gaming industry when it illustrated that games, like feature films, can be viewed as art – both in art design and in the rich depth of the narrative," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "Most importantly, the media are stating what we’ve known all along; that whether or not you’ve played the original, BioShock 2 is a worthy successor to one of the best games of all-time that should not be missed."

BioShock 2 is now available as a Standard Edition and as a collectible Special Edition. The packaging of the Special Edition has definitely gone for the more artsy approach this time as well. See what’s inside the BioShock 2 Special Edition, in this series of unboxing photos. Two different edition strategy guides are also on sale here.

Xbox 360 gamers can get BioShock 2 Avatar items from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace (here). PlayStation 3 gamers who pre-ordered from Amazon.com will be getting a Big Daddy outfit for their PlayStation Home avatar.

BioShock 2 is a production that spans multiple studios from 2K Games (developed by 2K Marin with 2K Australia and 2K China), as well as Digital Extremes for the multiplayer component.

Plenty of information on BioShock 2 and the original BioShock game can be found at the official website at www.bioshock2game.com, the official community and fan site at www.cultofrapture.com and at the teaser and immersive experience website, www.somethinginthesea.com.
