Years may have passed since the conclusion of Risen, but the dangers from the deep are far from over. Since the events in the island of Faranga in Risen, Risen 2: Dark Waters takes place in the age of pirates. A new Risen 2 cinematic trailer from publisher Deep Silver and developer Piranha Bytes hints at the voodoo magic and firearms in the dark setting. It is definitely a different feel from the original’s fantasy RPG setting, but looks even more mysterious.
Risen 2: Dark Waters has been confirmed for release on the Xbox 360, PC, and is also a debut for the series on the PlayStation 3. Keep a lookout for more on this action-RPG soon! Visit the official website at risen2.deepsilver.com.
Risen 2: Dark Waters has been announced today by publisher Deep Silver and developer Piranha Bytes. The story continues following the original game, as titans emerge from the depths to once again threaten humanity. Risen had more of a traditional fantasy action-RPG look, but Risen 2 goes for a bold new direction with a pirate theme and gunpowder firearms.

About Risen 2: Dark Waters, from Deep Silver:
“With an all-new pirate-based theme, Risen 2: Dark Waters aims to combine the most loved classic RPG gameplay mechanics of the original Risen with a fresh theme and setting on a huge variety of themed island locales. A third-person role-playing game set in a dark and gritty universe, Risen 2: Dark Waters maintains the most immersive features of the original Risen, with multiple approaches to every challenge allowing players to shape the game world based on their own decisions. These choices will serve to unlock new paths, features and additional skills for the character. Together with a highly interactive environment and a full day/night-cycle affecting countless aspects of the game world, Risen 2 will be set in the most immersive RPG game world so far.”
Risen 2 will be released on consoles and PC. An estimate release date has not been given. Looks like Amazon’s Germany website has already listed a Risen 2 Collector’s Edition (see here) for a December 2011 release, but it has not been announced for North America.

Review Summary: Risen is an action role-playing game that offers a tremendous amount of exploration, quests and character development for many hours of gameplay. It throws some of the traditional barriers of RPGs out (no inventory limits, no invisible walls and barely any loading screens). Players who demand the latest HD graphic visuals and action gameplay may not be impressed with what Risen has to offer. There are some technical pitfalls you may run into as well. What Risen offers best is many hours of gameplay, a unique approach to character development, some beautiful environments, and a story that grows on you throughout the game. Only the persistent will survive the quests and trials of Risen and truly feel a sense of accomplishment in the end.
Game publisher Deep Silver and Piranha Bytes have made a playable demo available for Risen (PC). The role-playing game is now available for the PC. You can now try it out for yourself and see how it plays on your system. Risen will also be released on the Xbox 360, in 2010.
About the Risen demo, from Deep Silver:
"The Risen demo that accompanies the new RPG from Piranha Bytes lets players experience the dramatic introduction of the game where the nameless hero survives a shipwreck in a storm and lands on the shore of the Island of Faranga. Numerous decisions must be made within the course of the adventure, each one influencing the storyline in different ways. This already becomes quite evident in the demo version."
Game publisher Deep Silver has released the final box art cover for the upcoming action- role-playing game from Piranha Bytes, Risen. See high resolution images of the detailed Xbox 360 and PC artwork here.
