SEGA & Creative AssemblySo SEGA is creating a new game development team at Creative Assembly, makers of the Total War series?  That is not what I was expecting, but it is wonderful news.  SEGA of America has announced via their official blog that Creative Assembly is working on a new title in the Aliens universe.  Famous for PC strategy games, Creative Assembly was acquired by Sega of Europe in 2005, but only has a few console titles to its name (Stormrise, Viking: Battle for Asgard, and Spartan: Total Warrior).  This team at the studio will probably push it past the 200 member mark, making it very large for a UK developer.

This news confirms that SEGA will not contract Rebellion, developers of the recent Aliens vs Predator game, for another follow-up. As to whether this game will come to the PC, no word on that as of yet.  Maybe the new Aliens title will be at E3 2011 this year.

Aliens vs. Predator players will soon be able to download the first bit of downloadable content soon. The Swarm Map Pack will be available on Thursday, March 18, 2010. You’ll be able to purchase it from the Xbox 360′s Xbox LIVE Marketplace (560 Microsoft Points), the PlayStation 3′s PlayStation Network ($6.99) or on the PC from Steam ($6.99). These are the four maps that were previously exclusive to the Aliens vs. Predator Hunter Edition.

Here are the details from SEGA on the four new map types included in the AvP Swarm Map Pack:

Two new multiplayer maps are for six different modes (Deathmatch, Predator Hunt,  Infestation, Species Deathmatch, Mixed Species Deathmatch and Domination):
Docks: The caustic alkali waters of BG-386 put an end to Weyland-Yutani’s planned shipping activities. But this dockyard soon became an historic battleground.
Machine:  As well as processing exotic ores, the BG-386 Refinery provided electrical power to the colonists at Freya’s Prospect. The lights may still be on, but nobody’s home. Yet.

Two new Survivor maps in which up to four Marines battle to stay alive against increasing swarms of Aliens:
Outpost: The site of the original Weyland-Yutani colony on BG-386 was abandoned, and soon reclaimed by the planet’s voracious jungle plant life. It is now the perfect hunting ground for all manner of wildlife.
Hive: Deep in the heart of the Freya’s Prospect Refinery lays the Xenomorph Hive. Beware all who enter here.

Today SEGA will simultaneously release a multiplayer demo of Aliens vs. Predator, for the PlayStation 3 (via PSN), Xbox 360 (via Xbox LIVE) and PC (via Steam). The first-person shooter demo is set on the map "Refinery" in the standard deathmatch mode. Aliens vs. Predator features seven multiplayer maps, and three race classes for players to choose from.

“With the demo now gamers can get to grips with each of the three iconic species so they can hone their skills and be ready for when the game launches and battle commences,” said Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director of Rebellion.

The colonial marine, the Predator and the Alien, your three species to select from, will also have intertwining single-player campaigns. Aliens vs Predator is set to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on February 16th in America and February 19th in Europe. A "Hunter Edition" will also be available.

Today SEGA announced that actor Lance Henriksen will be doing the voice work and appearing in the upcoming game, Aliens vs. Predator. Lance Henriksen will be playing as Bishop, but not the same Bishop you may remember from the Aliens, Aliens 3 or Aliens vs. Predator movies in which he played one of the many Bishop characters. In the Aliens vs. Predator game, Lance Henriksen appears as Karl Bishop Weyland, whom SEGA notes is a descendent of Charles Bishop Weyland, the founder of the Weyland-Yutani corporation.

“They’ve made me look very good,” said Lance Henriksen, “This is the first time I’ve been fully represented in a game, with my voice and how I look, and the Rebellion guys have done a great job. I might score from this game!”

Aliens vs. Predator is in development by Rebellion. Watch for the game from SEGA in February 2010 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
