Official PlayStation App (iPhone & iPod touch)

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has announced the Official PlayStation App, set to hit the iPhone, iPod touch and Android mobile devices. The free to download Official PlayStation App has been confirmed for the following regions: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands. No official announcement from Sony Computer Entertainment America yet.

So what do you get in the Official PlayStation App? Here is a rundown of the features, from SCEE:

- Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.

- Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.

- Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.

- Share your favourite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

It sounds much like the functionality as found in the PlayStation Blogs. An iPad release is likely to be coming in the future. The Official PlayStation App will not be released on Blackberry and Windows Phone 7 phones. SCEE is aiming to get the Official PlayStation App released before Christmas.

The Sony PlayStation Portable and PSPgo will soon be getting an expanded library of affordable games with the launch of "minis." Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) made the announcement of "minis" at gamescom. You might think of minis as something like the iPhone or iPod touch games on a PSP platform. As a matter of fact, a few games from the iPhone platform will be available as minis. Some announced games include popular App Store games such as Fieldrunners, Hero of Sparta and Minigore.

minis are "snackable" PSP games. They’ll have a 100MB file size limit and are exclusive digital downloads from the PlayStation Store. Pricing wasn’t announced, but hopefully they will be equal to that of the App Store pricing (for example, Minigore is .99 cents and Fieldrunners is $2.99). PSP minis will debut on October 1st, on the release date of the PSPgo. An estimated 15 games will be available at launch. Several games be exclusive to the PSP minis platform, so you won’t find some games on the App Store or other gaming platforms.

See a trailer for the PSP minis below.

"We are very excited to offer so much new content for PSP this year, particularly in this bite-sized form," said Zeno Colaco, Vice President, Publisher and Developer Relations, SCEE. "In opening the door to developers everywhere, we are broadening the type of content available to PSP owners, and opening up a world of possibilities to enhance the PSP gaming experience."

""minis" is yet another part of our concerted effort to expand content options on PlayStation Store as the demand for digital content will increase with the launch of PSPgo," said Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network and Strategic Planning, SCEA. "minis will give developers the opportunity to create and share a variety of new and original content that in some cases, are only available on PSP."

What do you think about PSP minis? If minis are the same price as games on the App Store, would you rather get your games for your PSP or PSPgo?

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time is headed to the PLAYSTATION 3. This is the third part in the Ratchet and Clank game series, following previous PLAYSTATION 3 games released from Insomniac Games, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction and Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty.

From SCEE:
“Concluding the events that began in Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction and Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time will answer some of the franchise fans’ biggest questions. After discovering that lovable robot Clank’s disappearance was engineered by Dr. Nefarious, the Wrench-swinging Ratchet races to save his best friend. Along the way, both will finally uncover the hidden truth behind their origins, and discover their ultimate destinies. As the duo come closer to reuniting, they’ll have to ask themselves the biggest question of all: Do Ratchet and Clank’s destinies lie with each other? Or is it finally time for the universe’s greatest duo to separate for good?”

Expect more new weapons, abilities and enemies to round out the adventure. Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time is estimated for a Autumn 2009 release.
