Game developer DotEmu has released an update for their iPhone and iPod touch game, Golvellius: Valley of Doom. The update has been done based on feedback DotEmu has received on the interface and animation of Golvellius.
“We put a lot of effort in gathering gamers’ feedback and this update is the answer to all the comments we received”, said Xavier Liard, CEO of DotEmu.
In an effort to introduce gamers to Golvellius: Valley of Doom on the iPhone, the price has been dropped to a low .99 cents for a limited time. A great deal for a classic RPG. If you’ve never heard of or played Golvellius: Valley of Doom, it’s a retro action-role playing game, very similar to the Legend of Zelda on the NES. Golvellius: Valley of Doom was actually released on the SEGA Master System (8-bit era of gaming).

SEGA Master System gamers may remember the action-RPG Golvellius: Valley of Doom. It was SEGA’s effort in the ’80s to bring Golvellius to the Master System as an alternative to the NES game, Legend of Zelda. Now, 20 years later, you can take it with you in your pocket on the iPhone or iPod touch, thanks to game publisher DotEmu. Golvellius: Valley of Doom is now available at a fraction of what it cost back in the day, for $1.99 here at the App Store. Relive and remember playing it on the SEGA Master System, or experience it for the first time and see how 8-bit RPGs were back in the day. This edition features gameplay enhancements and some controls designed to work on the iPhone and iPod touch interface.
About Golvellius: Valley of Doom, from DotEmu:
“The evil Golvellius has kidnapped the Princess Rena and is spreading terror in the valley. As the brave knight Kelesis, you must get her back! Golvellius has sent seven of his fiercest demons hidden in caves to stop you. Some caves can be opened by defeating the beasts of the valley and some other ones will appear when you get certain objects in your inventory. Don’t forget to buy crystals upon defeating each demon. For in some caves you will find fairies, sorceress and the wise women who will help you by selling objects to improve your strength, bibles to increase your max amount of gold and life potions.”

With the rivalry of the 8-bit videogame hardware era long gone, SEGA Master System games will be arriving on Nintendo’s Wii Virtual Console soon. SEGA of America has announced two of the SEGA Master System’s early signature games, Fantasy Zone and Wonder Boy, are among the first coming to the US Wii Virtual Console. SEGA Master System games will be available for 400 Wii Points ($4), making it the lowest price point of a retro game on the Wii Virtual Console (currently NES games go for 500 Wii Points, $5).
From SEGA:
Wonder Boy: As Tom-Tom the Wonder Boy, it’s up to you to rescue your girlfriend Tanya from the vile clutches of a monster that has kidnapped her. To do so, you must navigate through a series of worlds in a race against time to reach your goal, as you battle off foes and collect fruit that will add to the amount of time you have to complete your mission. You can also collect helpful power-ups from various eggs, but make sure to avoid the “bad” eggs and poisonous mushrooms that sap your precious vitality. Find the magic doll in each level that opens up the hidden areas, and make it to the very end to rescue your one true love!
Fantasy Zone: Take command of the spaceship Opa-Opa and blast your way through various fantastical levels as you try to take out all the enemy bases in each stage. Once you’ve destroyed the bases, you’ll have to beat the stage boss in order to move on to the next level. By using your guns and bombs wisely, you’ll be able to take down your enemies and explore each of the crazy environments in this side-scroller. You can also buy upgraded weapons for your ship by accessing the shop. Various SEGA games through the years have referenced the Opa-Opa – now you can play the game that started it all!
A release date was not given (other than “soon”), but we’ll keep you posted when SEGA Master System games are online and available from the Wii Shop.
See the list of currently available Wii VIrtual Console games here.
UPDATE: SEGA of America notes that SEGA Master System games will vary from 400-500 Wii Points, with the majority of releases to be 500 Wii Points.
