Gone are the days of plastic bagging and cardboard backing your comic books. Comic books go digital today on the PlayStation Portable with the launch of the PSN Digital Comics store. Just launched this afternoon, you can now download and purchase digital comics from the "Comics" section via your PSP’s or PSPgo’s PlayStation Store. Sitting alongside the Game and Video buttons on the top of the PlayStation Store menu, the Comics section brings hundreds of new digital comics from popular comic book publishers. This includes Marvel and IDW Publishing. The complete listing of comics available for the launch of Digital Comics are listed here on the PlayStation Blog. You can find comics based on Spider-Man, X-Men, Transformers, Captain America, Iron Man, Mickey Mouse, Star Trek and many more.
The price of a Digital Comic ranges from $0.99 to $1.99. The digital comics take a few MB of memory space each, most in the 10MB to 50MB range. There is a "Free Comics" section which includes many Issue #1 comics to get you hooked into a series. Sixteen comics are available for free, which include Transformers, Wallace & Gromit, G.I. Joe, The Warriors, and more.
You will need to download the free Digital Comics Reader to access the comics, which you can read more about here. There are also more instructions on how to get the reader in the Comics section on the PlayStation Store. Once installed, the Digital Comics Reader is found in the [Extras] menu of your PSP’s XMB, if you are using PSP Firmware 6.20 or later.
