what’s new

LittleBigPlanet gets a little bigger and more robust today with Update 1.21 (aka “Leerdammer”). The free update is now available for download once you load up LittleBigPlanet on your PlayStation 3. Game developer Media Molecule has released a walkthrough video, highlighting some of the new features, which you can see below.

One of the major new features is the Online Create mode, allowing you to create levels with up to three other players online. There’s an update to the Network performance for improved gameplay online. A few changes to the way save files work allows you to save more content and backup your profile and levels.

The Wii’s Nintendo Channel gets some much needed love starting today with a revamp to its design and functionality. You’ll be prompted to download the latest update when you launch the Nintendo Channel from the Wii Menu. After a brief download, you’ll go through the terms of the Nintendo Channel as before. The first new option you’ll get is to set your Video Quality Settings. A new "High Quality" option is offered for improved video quality (although definitely not HD). A "Normal Quality" option allows for quicker downloads at a sacrifice of quality.

The layout of the videos available on the Nintendo Channel are arranged better, with a video thumbnail display for each. A new weekly series kicks off from Nintendo called "Nintendo Week," with the very first episode premiering today, so make sure to stop in and check it out. Any new content that is new to the Nintendo Channel is clearly indicated with a NEW icon. An icon bar along the bottom of the screen also clearly shows New Arrivals, Find Titles For You, DS Download Service, Recommended Titles, Everyone’s Recommendations and Records. It’s a good move from Nintendo to show there’s regularly updated content on their system online as the other game consoles.
