A posting in the rockbandgame.com forums confirms that you will be able to use current Guitar Hero guitars in Rock Band. The posting comes after IGN reported “One thing is certain, if you are about to buy Guitar Hero II on Xbox 360, the Red Octane instrument will not work with Rock Band. The peripherals for Rock Band are being created by Harmonix and will not be identical to the guitar recently released by Activision for 360.”

Harmonix Developer Jason Booth posted: “For some reason, IGN posted that Rock Band will not be compatable with Guitar Hero guitars. I thought I’d drop in and let you know that this is not correct.”

Another post questions: “Really? So then there isn’t anything new planned for the guitars of Rock Band?” The reply was: “There is – but you’ll have to wait to hear about that.”

So there will be an option to get another kind of guitar, but you’ll at least be able to use your current Guitar Hero guitars in Rock Band!

Also, accessories for the Xbox 360 and PS3 Rock Band game have been listed at GameStop. Rock Band Microphone ($39.99), Rock Band Drum Set ($79.99), Rock Band Wireless Guitar ($79.99) and Rock Band Guitar ($59.99). It should be noted that the folks at Harmonix have also responded to this, stating: “Let me nip this one in the bud right now. Those are estimated prices and not official in any even remote way. We haven’t even decided on prices ultimately, much less announced them.”

And while on the subject of all this guitar talk, it’s worth noting that the May 2007 OXM issue’s Rumor Mole has said “Word is that many, if not all, of the songs from the first Guitar Hero game are being retooled as downloadable content for the 360 version of Guitar Hero II.”
