Everyone’s favorite British game designer, Peter Molyneux, announced the follow up to 2008’s smash hit Fable II during the Microsoft Press Conference at gamescom in Cologne, Germany. In Fable III, you will be playing your son or daughter from Fable II over 50 years after the end of Fable II. This time around you will “start a revolution” to become the ruler of Albion, the land in which all three games are based. Once you take over Albion, you can run your nation the way you want. This mechanic is definitely where the “moral choices” will come into effect. You will be forced to make tough choices that can form your experience and effect the entire kingdom. Other than that, Peter Molyneux confirmed that Fable 3 will be available for the holiday season of next year. This will be an Xbox 360 exclusive, seeing as Peter Molyneux is the head of Xbox Europe.
Peter Molyneux also announced that Fable II will be coming to Xbox LIVE in five separate episodes. The first one is free, because it is basically the engine with some quests and each episode can be purchased in-game when you finish your previous one. No pricing has been announced, but I am assuming that it is going to be around $10 to $15. Your game saves will be interchangeable if you purchase a disc during that time and all the downloadable content is compatible. I’m not sure why anyone who already owns Fable II would need these episodes, but for someone who is not ready to drop $60 on an RPG, this first free episode could lead to a full purchase. Fable II is definitely worth the money, but you should at least download the first episode.
