Ubisoft has stealthily shipped its first 1080p Xbox 360 game. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent, available just yesterday at retailers, is the first Xbox 360 game to support 1080p resolution. Although the retail box only lists support for 480p/780p/1080i resolutions, GamePro.com discovered the 1080p option on a pre-released version of the game installed on a ” Xbox 360 debug hard drive.”

From GamePro.com: “Once we noticed the new option, we immediately followed up with Ubisoft. Would the retail version of Splinter Cell: Double Agent also support 1080p output on the retail Xbox 360? A Ubisoft representative’s answer was short and to the point: “Yes.”

A follow up from GamePro.com with Ubisoft confirmed the 1080p support.

Having the option for 1080p in the game is good to know, but you will not to be do anything with that unless you have an HD set that supports 1080p and, more importantly, support for 1080p has not been released on the Xbox 360 console itself. Microsoft did announce support for 1080p will be coming (and is supported through its VGA cable) in a future update of the Xbox 360 dashboard.
